Upcoming and Recent Speaking Events of President Iskenderian

WWB President and CEO Mary Ellen Iskenderian continues to keep a busy schedule of speaking engagements in academic, financial, and philanthropic settings, promoting the work of the Women's World Banking network and sharing WWB's knowledge and vision throughout the microfinance industry and beyond.

May 15-17, in Shanghai, China, Ms. Iskenderian spoke at the Women's Forum Asia. The conference was the inaugural Asian meeting of the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society, which seeks to promote women's vision on economics and society by convening leading business figures and opinion makers from all backgrounds including economics, politics, and academia. June 3, in London, England, Ms. Iskenderian spoke at the Financial Times Sustainable Banking Conference. This year's conference - titled "How Sustainable is Sustainable Banking when the Bottom Line is Under Threat?" - addressed ways that financial institutions can serve the "underbanked" in developing nations. The conference was co-hosted by the Financial Times and the IFC (International Finance Corporation), the private sector arm of the World Bank. Ms. Iskenderian participated in the panel discussion "More Than Microfinance: Reaching the Bottom of the Pyramid." For more information on the conference, visit the Financial Times.

June 5-8, in Ouro Preto, Brazil, Ms. Iskenderian addressed the Eisenhower Fellowships' Latin America Regional Conference, "Leadership for Development and Sustainable Growth: Facing the Challenges in Latin America." Please visit the Eisenhower Fellowships website for more information.

June 12, in New York City, Ms. Iskenderian will be a panelist at the Financial Women's Association conference on "Microinsurance - From Corporate Underwriting to MFI Customer." For information on the conference, visit the Financial Women's Association.

June 24, in New York City, Ms. Iskenderian will address the New York chapter of WAM International (Women Advancing Microfinance) on the Impact of Commercialization on Women Microfinance Clients: A Discussion of WWB's Recent Paper "Stemming the Tide of Mission Drift: Microfinance Transformations and the Double Bottom Line." Other speakers will include the author of the paper, Christina Frank of WWB's Capital Markets Group, and Inez Murray, WWB's Vice President of Technical Assistance and Programs.
