Vice President, Network Management

Women's World Banking is seeking a seasoned Vice President of Network Management to join its Leadership Team. Women's World Banking (WWB) is a leading global network of 54 microfinance providers and banks serving 23 million clients in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. WWB provides technical assistance and access to learning, innovation, and capital - all focused on helping WWB's MFI partners grow and drive their mission of serving low-income entrepreneurs globally and with a particular focus on poor women.

The Vice President is responsible for overall management of WWB's relationship with its Network Members (NMs) and, as a member of the Leadership Team, will report directly to the CEO. She/he will oversee one of WWB's principal business lines, comprising: Relationship Management; Monitoring & Evaluation; Market Insight; and Lateral Learning. She/he will lead the assessment of NM priorities and set annual strategic priorities for WWB's engagement with them; oversee the assessment of NM standing in the Network and make recommendations to WWB's Board on all network matters; and lead the communication with NMs about their standing in the Network. As a member of the WWB Leadership Team, she/he will contribute to building WWB internal capabilities including planning, budgeting, implementation and monitoring systems, effective teams, and seamless delivery processes. The Vice President may travel internationally up 40% of her/his time.

The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Coaching and mentoring Network Management Team in the skills and knowledge required for enacting WWB's mission, vision, and values in their interactions with Network Members
  • Working closely with the Vice President of Technical Assistance and Programs, to determine the highest and best use of resources across Network Members in order to provide the highest quality of service delivery to the network
  • Helping to develop measures of WWB impact on Network Members
  • Overseeing the development of new learning strategies that will expand WWB's outreach to a larger or geographically-dispersed audience
  • Partnering closely with WWB leadership to link learning initiatives with WWB's strategic objectives
  • Creating strategy plans and business cases for new expansions in selected regions and countries
  • Making recommendations on new trends and programs to introduce to NMs using data provided by the Market Insight Team
  • Facilitating better understanding of tools & methodologies of Qualitative Data Collection
  • Partnering with the Development Team to write effective fund-raising proposals and reports back to donors

  • Capacity to develop meaningful and effective performance metrics for the team and to use these to engage in a productive, two-way dialogue to discuss individual team members' performance
  • Ability to oversee the work of a large team and provide advice and input on their work, as necessary
  • Ability to flexibly employ pre-designed criteria to make tradeoffs in resource allocation across
  • Network Members and to incorporate and reflect the opinions of other managers, and the needs of other parts of the organization, in these decisions

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Strong ability to bring rigorous analysis (i.e., microfinance operations; organizational development; financial analysis; policy, and competitive positioning) to bear in understanding Network Member needs and critical strategic issues

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

The successful candidate will have a MA Degree and 10 years equivalent experience in microfinance and development; 5 years supervising staff and managing a department. International experience required. Thorough knowledge of more than one technical area of microfinance or specialized field, with knowledge of others required. English fluency and Spanish or French.
