WWB Network Members in Morocco and Tunisia Receive The MIX's 5 Diamond Ranking

At the Sanabel Annual Conference in June, Microfinance Information Exchange, Inc. (MIX) and Sanabel granted certificates of transparency to 43 microfinance institutions (MFIs) from Arab countries. These certificates recognize MFIs for their contribution to improving the transparency, quality, and reliability of microfinance information. Three MFIs received 5 Diamond certificates, the highest level of transparency awarded by MIX.

An article written by Mariama Ashcroft, WWB's Africa Relationship Manager, was featured in the MicroBanking Bulletin's December 2008, Issue 17. The article titled Microfinance in Africa: the Challenges, Realities and Success Stories is based on a study by WWB and AMAF- the Africa Microfinance Action Forum, a voluntary advocacy group of African leaders committed to the advancement of microfinance.

Based on data published on MIX Market, the MIX Global 100 Composite Ranking highlights institutions that achieve high outreach and low transaction costs while being both profitable and transparent. The ranking surveyed the business results of 971 institutions for FY 2007.

ADB and Mix Ranks Kashf Foundation as one of the top MFIs in Asia

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) have announced the first-ever ranking of MFIs in the Asia-Pacific region. The ranking and accompanying analysis, titled 2007 MIX Asia 100, draw on outreach and performance results from 392 MFIs for the fiscal year 2006.

Banco da Familia Awarded Mix Market Certificate for Transparency

We are delighted to announce that Banco da Familia, WWB’s network member in Brazil, has been awarded the Mix Market Certificate for Transparency for 2006. Under the leadership of founding President Isabel Baggio and Vice President Marcio Oliveira, Banco da Familia has served primarily poor women entrepreneurs in Brazil since 1999, and currently has over 6000 clients, 62% of whom are women. With the award of the 2006 Certificate of Transparency, Mix Market gives an objective confirmation of the quality of the Banco da Familia’s operations. This will bring Banco da Familia more recognition and visibility in the microfinance sector, and allow the organization to find more diverse sources of funding.
